JAMES WILKINS.
ELEMENTS.
BURNISHED SILVER FOIL PRINT.
183 x 122 CM.

The collection ‘SILVER LIGHT’ is a searching consideration of the traditional landscape painting. The images are at once romantic and pictorial- and yet raise the question as to the nature of our perceived comfort in the traditions of the past.  Both western movements such as the period “LUMINISM”, and eastern traditions such as SHAN SHUI, are represented. As we stumble into a futuristic way of life, there is an undeniable connectedness to the purity of the natural world that is satiated by- and for many only capable of being experienced through- art. The images aspire to know the memories of the viewer, to already exist in our collective psyche. They are a precognition of our dreams and our unconscious oneness with the natural world- as a nirvana we will one day attain.

PRINTED ON a unique burnished SILVER FOIL THE highlights are rendered in gleaming luminous and reflective silver, whereas the dark tones are drawn with a matte  black ink, that as a counterpoint, absorbs light.  The uncommon print type further punctuates the hypnotic allure and touches upon the undeniable divinity, perhaps the true reason for our attachment to traditional art forms...to all things traditional.
